Meet Eri! Our Latest Addition to The Aus. Library.

Thursday, 9 February 2017

Hello, I’m Eri and I’m super honored to join The Aus. Library as a co-blogger. There are a lot of exciting things to come on this blog and I can’t wait to be a part of them and the awesome team that runs it!

I was born and raised on the sunny west coast of the US, and am currently braving out the seasons in the midwest, where I attend college. I’m a newly minted English Lit major, and I’m hopefully heading towards a career in publishing, though it feels very much like a pipe dream at the moment. I’m fluent in English and Japanese, though I’m also currently studying German and a bit of Spanish, as I find languages are some of the most interesting subjects to study.

Unfortunately, I suck at taking pictures and
this is my most recent selfie, lol.

I care about three things quite passionately in life and those are books, sleep, and food. I adore dessert and it’s possibly my favorite part of a meal. I also have a travel wish list of places I want to visit for their food. That says a lot about how much I care about food.

I've been blogging on and off since mid-2015 on my own blog, Airy Reads, but I've been reviewing on Goodreads for much longer, and have been inhaling books from a very young age.

I usually gravitate towards two types of books, which are YA targeted books and Romance, particularly contemporary and regency. I love twisty plots and morally intriguing characters, but am always weak for a good ship. I pretty much read any sub-genre within YA, although I get really excited over thriller mystery books and retellings. I specialize in binge reading and you can often find me furiously finishing books, mostly when I’m supposed to be doing homework.

I don’t really enjoy singling out a favorite book/series, but I am devoted to the Gallagher Girls series, which hold a special place in my heart, because well, a spy school for girls is the ultimate dream and I live for the girl power and wonderful relationships that make up that series.

I spend a lot of time on Tumblr making edits for my favorite books, such as the ones below, and I also like to take bookstagram pictures as well, which is such a fun and creative way to share my love for books.

I also have a fun side project called Asian YA, which is dedicated to promoting books that feature Asian characters and/or Asian authors. It’s still in the beginning stages, but learning about books that showcase how Asia is such a diverse and rich region is something I’m very excited about.

Besides the above places, you can also find me on Twitter and I love to fangirl/chat with people about bookish things in general.

Thanks for reading, and I’m so excited to co blog with the rest of the lovely Aus Squad, Meleika, Bayram, Regi, Sara, and Sophie!

Cheers!

Releases of the month recap: January. Books you need to keep an eye on!

Monday, 6 February 2017

Dearest booklovers, get your calendars and TBR lists out and bring a red pen with you because you need to write these new releases down.

Being a bookworm has many perks, however, it can get a tiny bit overwhelming.  Okay, sometimes more than just a tiny bit. You know the drill and keeping TBRs up to date is a task only for the brave, (or maybe only for those extremely organized). The Aus. Library wants to give you a hand and make things easier for you, which is why we are inaugurating a new section.

*drum roll*

Book Releases of the month!

Every month we will be posting a list of new releases: some of them will be hyped and well known, others you have probably forgotten and perhaps, even some books you didn't know about. Either way, win-win situation. Are you with us? Yes? Let's get to it.

History is all you Left me | YA, contemporary, GLBT

Blurb:
When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.

To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues. He’s losing himself in his obsessive compulsions and destructive choices, and the secrets he’s been keeping are tearing him apart.
If Griffin is ever to rebuild his future, he must first confront his history, every last heartbreaking piece in the puzzle of his life.

Caraval | YA, Fantasy

Blurb:
Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world . . .
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Wayfarer | Passanger #2 | YA, Fantasy, Historical Fic

Blurb hidden to avoid Passanger #1 spoilers. But I want to know anyway! To goodreads!

Frost Blood  | YA, Fantasy

Blurb:
The frost king will burn.
Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a Fireblood who has concealed her powers of heat and flame from the cruel Frostblood ruling class her entire life. But when her mother is killed trying to protect her, and rebel Frostbloods demand her help to overthrow their bloodthirsty king, she agrees to come out of hiding, desperate to have her revenge.
Despite her unpredictable abilities, Ruby trains with the rebels and the infuriating—yet irresistible—Arcus, who seems to think of her as nothing more than a weapon. But before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to compete in the king’s tournaments that pit Fireblood prisoners against Frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her—and from the icy young man she has come to love.

Hold Back the Stars  | YA, Sci-Fi, Romance

Blurb:
Carys and Max have ninety minutes of air left.
None of this was supposed to happen.
But perhaps this doesn’t need to be the end…
Adrift in space with nothing to hold on to but each other, Carys and Max can’t help but look back at the well-ordered world they have left behind – at the rules they couldn’t reconcile themselves to, and a life to which they might now never return.
For in a world where love is banned, what happens when you find it?

Carve the Mark  | YA, Sci-Fi, Fantasy

WARNING! PROBLEMATIC!
We encourage you to read the following posts to know more:

Dear YA, I am not a Savage by Meleika @ The Aus. Library

Blurb:
On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

Everyone Welcome Sara! The Newest Addition to The Aus. Library!

Sunday, 5 February 2017

hello.jpg

My name is Sara and I'm a coffee and tea addict from Australia. I am very excited to be co-blogging for The Aus. Library! I'm also so excited for what the future will bring in relation to books and The Aus. Library!

About me: I'm nearly 19 y/o and currently starting my first year of University studying Biomedical Science! Yes, I'm a big science nerd so expect many facts in future posts! Ever since I was little, books were a huge part of my life, and am proud to say that ’till this day, they still are. Though I took a short break from reading in 2016 (to focus on my final year of high school), I'm finally back and can’t wait to catch up on everything I've missed and get back into reading! I look a little bit like this:

(as you can see, I really love my Hummus and Tea)

My favourite genre of books has got to be YA Fantasy and Science Fiction! Though I don’t have much blogging experience, I did Advanced English in my final two years of High School so writing is something I'm very much used to and I'm very keen to show you guys what I've got up my sleeve! I’m also from the Middle East and I'm Muslim! In saying that, I LOVE reading books about my religion and heritage. Whether it'd be historical or fictional, though in regards to the later, it is very hard to find.

I’m also a graphic designer, and I came first in my IT: Multimedia Class in 2016, for the third time in a row. I love every aspect of designing, especially if it’s book related! In late 2016, I worked with a book box subscription company named Spearcraft to design an Alice in Wonderland themed card! Some of my bookish work below!

Now to the question I dread the most: What’s your favourite book? … Can you hear my sigh? I don’t think I will ever have a favourite book, it will always be one of the latest ones I've read (and will read!) as I get quite attached to a book; whether it be its setting, the characters or the nature of the narrative.

One book I can mention right now is The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, it’s one of the first books I’ve read after my hiatus from reading (and maybe that's a reason as to why it's placed so high on the list?) but it could also be due to the encapsulating writing style Ahdieh has, the characterisation of characters whose names I grew up with and the fact its based off A Thousand and One Nights.

  • I love graphic novels and comics! I used to be an avid Marvel Comics fan and recently fell in love with Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga!
  • I’m a proud Slytherin!
  • I love art journaling and I write poetry(sometimes)
  • I have a Twitter and a bookstagram!

And that’s a wrap! thank you so much for reading this and I can’t wait for future posts! As I said, I'm super excited to be blogging alongside Meleika, Bayram, Regi, Sophie and Eri!

’Til next time!
