Top Ten Tuesday #4

Tuesday, 1 December 2015

It’s another Top Ten Tuesday and this weeks’ theme is “10 DEBUT BOOKS YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2016” and man was this list hard to make. I tried to find some Aussie YA to include in this list but some of the books that I’m looking forward to aren’t debuts. So I had a look at the Goodreads debut list and found some spectacular books.

The first book that I’m looking forward to is Gemini because it’s reminds me of Sarah Crossan’s One which was utterly beautiful to read and just a wonderful glimpse of the lives of conjoined twins which this books focuses on. Clara and Hailey are conjoined twins who have different plans after high school. If this doesn't scream heart breaking conflicts and consequences then I don’t know what does. Additionally look at that stunning cover like isn’t it beautiful ? I absolutely love watercolour covers and when I see them I must own the book.

The next two books I’m looking forward to are both Australian YA books and they are utterly so intriguing. Here’s the synopsis of Frankie from Penguin.

“Frankie Vega is angry. Just ask the guy whose nose she broke. Or the cop investigating the burglary she witnessed, or her cheating ex-boyfriend or her aunt who's tired of giving second chances...When a kid shows up claiming to be Frankie's half brother, it opens the door to a past she doesn't want to remember. And when that kid goes missing, the only person willing to help is a boy with stupidly blue eyes … and secrets of his own.Frankie's search for the truth might change her life, or cost her everything.”

Are you not entertained ? Doesn't sound spectacular ?

The next book is one I have been dying to read. It has been on my list of “NEED TO READ IN 2016” since I first heard of it’s existence because it’s a murder mystery thriller/supernatural book. This book is Yellow written by Megan Jacobson and I am literally over the moon ever since PTA LIVE Brisbane because I scored an Arc and it was literally a glorious moment. Here’s a synopsis from Penguin.

“If fourteen-year-old Kirra is having a mid-life crisis now, then it doesn't bode well for her life expectancy. Her so-called friends bully her, whatever semblance of a mother she had has been drowned at the bottom of a gin bottle ever since her dad left them for another woman, and now a teenage ghost is speaking to her through a broken phone booth. Kirra and the ghost make a pact. She'll prove who murdered him almost twenty years ago if he does three things for her. He makes her popular, he gets her parents back together, and he doesn't haunt her. Things aren't so simple however, and Kirra realises that people can be haunted in more ways than one.”

Also aren’t the covers glorious? Like look at them, they’re so pretty.

The next book on  the list is “The Mystery Of Hollow Places”

The first thing that caught my attention is the title, it’s so mysterious. Basically the book is about a girl, Imogene, who is convinced that her missing dad, a brilliant medical mysteries author, is out looking for her mum who left long ago. Using the knowledge from her dads books, she goes out to find her mum in order to find her dad.

Next on the list is “This Raging Light”. It’s about a girl, Lucille who is already struggling to get by in life, fall in love with her best friends brother, Digby Jones. This book already has me feeling giddy. Can’t wait to read it.

The fifth book on the list is “After the woods”. I don’t really know how to describe this book but it’s so mysterious that I’m guessing it’s a suspense/thriller book. Here’s the synopsis of the book. Also look at that cover ! How beautiful is it ?

The next book I am utterly hyped up for in 2016 is this beauty called “The Loose Ends List”. Now this book is about a girl, Maddie who’s grandmother is dying. The grandmother has set up this whole extravagant wacky vacation on the a cruise ship. Maddie also has a love interest. But the main reason why I really and urgently want to read this book is because Maddie reminds me of myself. My own grandmother was my best friend and she lost her battle with cancer in 2012. When I read synopsis of this book, I fell in love with it and it brought back so many memories of my grandmother and I. I can’t wait to pick it up.

“The First Time She Drowned” has a beautiful synopsis as well as a cover. The protagonist Cassie O’Malley was locked up in a mental institution by her mother for two years and is reintroduced into the world. She must find a way to move forward – after uncovering family lies – and both literally and metaphorically keep her head above water.

The next two books I’m about to share are my most anticipated reads for next year on this list. They both contain great story lines and to me are very unique.
The first is “The Crown’s Game” by Evelyn Skye. Here’s a few keywords about the book. Set in Russia. Gifted people = Enchanters. Empire initiates The Crown Games. Only one can live. But love blossoms. Who will live by the kings side ?
Isn’t it EPIC ? Like I need this book in my life right now.

The last book on this list is “Symptoms of being Human” and man oh man am I hyped for this book. I am literally so excited to read it because first of all it brings up the issue of how no one knows about the grey area between male and female. The character basically empowers those who a gender fluid and man, I can’t tell you how much that is important to not only young adult readers, not even readers but the whole human population. Everyone needs to understand gender fluidity and I hope this book explains it to readers. Also the storyline is just… AMAZING. Here’s the synopsis if you’d like to read it.

So there you have it folks, my TTT. Comment below on your anticipated reads and your favs on mine.

  3. ALL of these sound awesome! Good thing I don't have anything else to do in 2016 than read debut novels ... I wish :)

    Happy TTT!

  4. Oh my *makes googly heart eyes* so many immaculate covers! I love watercolours too. It could be an instructional booklet on how to put together Ikea furniture and as long as it has that watercolour cover, I'm going to buy it. I actually have an ARC copy of This Raging Light, looking forward to getting stuck into it soon. The one I'm most excited for is Yellow. That synopsis has completely sucked me in. You can just sense there's going to be a major twist to the storyline, bit like the ending of Belzhar (if you've read that one). My heart aches with want for all these pretties. Thanks for sharing Meleika <3

  5. I can't wait for The Crown's Game, too. Great list, Meleika!
